  • 2010 Art: At the Ballet
With the recent sale of a Degas painting for $1.1 million, I took another look at his paintings. He liked to paint scenes from the ballet and and horse races. With this in mind, I decided to try a charcoal drawing of a ballet scene. I like it and think I might do an oil painting along these lines. Original: charcoal on paper 18 x 24 inches. Prints on request.

Woman wearing long coat accompanied by a Golden Retriever standing on a country road bordered by leafless trees with sun rising above distant hills. Standing at the threshold of Spring. Original 18 x 24 inches oil on canvas. 2010 painting: $1200. USD

Scene shows a blue trawler fishing boat on the beach with sea gulls flying above. Pencil drawing on 18 x 24 inch paper (with oil colors). Original art: $150. Reproductions available.
  • 2010 Art: Restless in Calm Waters
"Restless" is a 44-foot wooden yawl. This scene is captured at the end of a great day sailing. 27 x 18 inches charcoal and watercolours on luan panel. I capitalized on the natural grain of the wood panel to establish the patterns of the water and sky while keeping the colors somewhat muted.
  • 2010 Art: Emerging Schooner
Emerging from darkness, the helmsman steers a line toward the light under full sail. Charcoal and pencil on paper, 24 x 18 inches. Original available.
